  • Foreigners who go to live in Portugal to carry out religious activities.

D7 visa requirements

The main requirement to obtain the D7 visa is to prove income that has to be at least the minimum amount required by law.

How to prove income for the D7 visa?

Proof of income is one of the most important items to obtain the D7 visa. For those who are retired, it is necessary to attach proof of retirement and the Income Tax Declaration to the application.

For those who live on income, it is necessary to present financial proof of this income, whatever they may be: financial investments, property rentals and other types of income. Income tax must also be submitted.

Religious must present a Certificate from the church or community to which they belong, with recognition of the Portuguese legal order (nominal invitation). It is also necessary to present a Declaration of the respective church or community in their country (with recognized signature) and Income Tax Declaration.

In all cases, it is essential to present proof that financial means are available in Portugal.

What monthly amount do I need to prove?

The value varies according to the number of people in the family that will apply for a visa to retire in Portugal.

The amounts, which are calculated based on the Portuguese minimum wage, are as follows:

  • 1st adult (who applies for the visa): 100% of the current minimum wage (€760 in 2023);
  • 2nd adult: 50% of the current minimum wage (€380 in 2023);
  • Each child or young person under the age of 18 and dependent adult children: 30% of the current minimum wage (228€ in 2023).

A retired couple, for example, must prove the minimum amount of €1,140 per month (which corresponds to 150% of the Portuguese minimum wage for 2023).

The Government of Portugal also requires proof of the minimum monthly amount for the period of one year, that is, €1,140 x 12 months = €13,680 in a bank account to apply for a visa for one applicant plus one group.

Know that visa approval is not automatic. Therefore, the more resources you can prove, the more chance you have of having your visa approved.

Does the amount need to be available in a bank account in Portugal?

YES! The amount for one year (as indicated above) must be available in a bank account in Portugal. The account must be opened in the name of the D7 visa holder.
