This exclusive visa can be requested by foreigners of any nationality, as long as they work remotely. It is applicable to those who provide self-employed services and also to those who are hired by companies in other countries.

Requirements


The main requirements to be able to apply for a visa for digital nomads in Portugal are:

  • Prove that you have a job;
  • show your monthly earnings*

*According to the new regulations of the Law of Foreigners, in order to apply for a visa for digital nomads, it is necessary to prove the average monthly amount equivalent to four minimum wages in Portugal per month.


Based on the minimum wage in Portugal, which is €760 in 2023, the average monthly earning amount to be proven is €3,040 gross.


Visas have already started to be issued


In January 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal (MNE) reported that, since the end of October 2022, around 200 visas for digital nomads have already been issued.

The MNE also communicated that, based on the list of visas already issued:

Citizens of the United States, United Kingdom, and Brazil lead the list of nationalities with temporary stay visas and residence permits for remote workers.

This shows the commitment of the Portuguese government to streamline the process of issuing these visas for those who want to enjoy the quality of life in Portugal.
